26 new agrarian lawyers to handle 'vintage' DAR cases sworn into office
By Jel Santos
Twenty-six new lawyers who will be handling "vintage" agrarian cases has taken their oath of office.

The lawyers took their oath before Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Secretary Conrado M. Estrella III.
According to Estrella, they will be assigned around the country to expedite the resolution of agrarian reform cases, which have been remained pending for as long as 20 years in the Agrarian department.
The hiring of more lawyers is part of the agency's commitment to the agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) to facilitate the resolution of disputes at the regional level.
Estrella is on the process of establishing quick response teams, so that there will be no need for the ARBs to go the DAR Central Office to file or follow up the status of their cases.
The DAR Secretary reiterated his policy of bringing government to the people and enjoined the new lawyers to go the extra mile in delivering quality public service to the farmer-beneficiaries.
In September last year, Estrella said the DAR was "experiencing a shortage of lawyers to review all agrarian disputes that are pending under the DAR Adjudication Board (DARAB) and Agrarian Law Implementation (ALI)," prompting him to encourage more lawyers to join the department.
Those who took their oath were Atty. Gerald Zamudio Gubatan, Atty. Lalaine Ocampo Parlade, Atty. Cerine June Caluducan Dela Cruz, Atty. Jose Epifanio Azcarraga San Jose, Atty. Mara Athena Grace Cabais Venenciano, Atty. Izrael Phillip Velasco Cruz, Atty. Carlton Gumangan Sakai, Atty. Alexandro Piñon Galit, Atty. Rujhen Rujh Raganta Magliba, Atty. Jona Mae Malacad Dioso, Atty. Osmond Medrano Montero, Atty. Albert Nagal Lavandero, Atty. Antonio IV Velasco Ladera, Atty. Roy Martin Ortiz Darilag, and Atty. Francisco Sibug Yabut.
During the department’s budget presentation before the House of Representatives Appropriations Committee last Aug. 17, Estrella vowed to accelerate the acquisition and distribution of land to beneficiaries, expedite the resolution of agrarian reform implementation cases, and modernize agrarian reform communities nationwide.
He also promised the finalization of the implementing rules and regulations (IRR) of the Republic Act No. 11953 on or before the deadline of 60 after the effectivity of the law and the fast-tracking of the Support to Parcelization of Land for Individual Titles (Project SPLIT), which was delayed due to the pandemic.
