BACOLOD CITY – The provincial government of Negros Occidental has awarded P677,000 to Palarong Pambansa medalists from the province.

Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson led the distribution of the incentives at the governor’s office at the provincial capitol here on Thursday, August 24.
Western Visayas finished second overall behind National Capital Region (NCR). Negrense athletes bagged 106 gold, 31 silver, and 54 bronze medals.
Gold medalists received P5,000 each, silver medalists P3,000, and bronze medalists, P1,000.
Trackster Mico Villaran of the Romanito P. Maravilla Sr. National High School here received an additional P5,000 for being the most bemedaled athlete. He bagged four golds and a silver medal.
Thrower Airex Gabriel Villanueva, also from the same school, received an additional P5,000 for breaking the Palaro record in discus throw.
He threw the discus at 42.83 meters, breaking the 2018 record of 42.67 meters set by Ed Deliña of Central Luzon. Villanueva bagged two gold medals.
The secondary girls’ volleyball team from Bacolod Ta Tung High School here which defeated defending champion NCR also received incentives. Trainers were also given incentives amounting to P85,000.
The Palarong Pambansa was held in Marikina City from July 30 to August 5.
