“We recognized Ilonggos who have made significant contributions to the city and continue to inspire its people as role models for them to emulate; Iloilo City has reached greater heights as a result of their recognition,” said Mayor Jerry Treñas here.

Bestowed Lifetime Achievement Awards were former Sen. Franklin M. Drilon, musician Jose Mari Chan, Bombo Radyo Philippines founder Rogelio Florete, chess grandmaster Eugene Torre, Architect Sergio V. Peñasales, Dr. Engracio Padilla Cortez, tycoon Alfonso A. Uy, and tycoon Henry O. Chusuey.

“Sen. Drilon had been in politics for many years, particularly in the Executive and Legislative departments since 1986 up to 2022. He had been an exemplary legislator. When I was in the Commission on Appointments, I could see several senators going to him asking for legal opinions," said Treñas.

“Mr. Chan is known for his heartwarming music across the world.”

“Mr. Florete, on the other hand, started a small local radio station in the city that boomed nationwide, expanding in various locations, and made a mark in the media industry,” the mayor noted.
