The Philippines has successfully set the record for most attended FIBA game with 38,115 fans going all out to watch Gilas Pilipinas' opening game against the Dominican Republic at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan on Friday, Aug. 25.

With the joint effort of the local organizing committee and the government, Filipinos flocked to Bulacan to witness the Nationals' campaign against the Dominicans with President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. also in attendance to support the squad in the basketball showpiece.

The gate attendance first peaked at 21,214 at 5:50 p.m. during Italy and Angola's tussle which opened the hostilities in Group A.

The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) also did not lack effort in drumming up support for the Jordan Clarkson-led Gilas.

"Everyone inside the Philippine Arena will never forget the amazing levels of love for both basketball and the Philippines national team that was cascading around the venue.

"This is just the start for what will be the most memorable event in FIBA's history and we're all excited for what lies ahead - both on and off the court. Not only in the Philippines, but also in Japan and Indonesia."

"Ever since we put in the bid to host the World Cup in 2015, the mission was to showcase the Filipino people’s love for basketball", stated SBP Chairman Emeritus Manny V. Pangilinan.

"We often say we’re the best fans in the world, but beating the old FIBA attendance record has proven what we have believed all along."
