The Fil-American naturalized player erupted for 28 points to go along with seven rebounds and seven assists before his absence towards the end of the fourth quarter was taken advantage of by the Karl Anthony Towns-led Dominican Republic which ultimately ended in an 87-81 heartbreaker in front of a record home crowd of 38,115.

Behind the Utah Jazz star is fellow NBA player Nikola Vucevic, who dropped a double-double outing of 27 points and 10 rebounds for his native Montenegro’s 91-71 victory over Mexico at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Towns then hauled a double-double of his own with 26 points and 10 rebounds to power the Dominicans atop the Group A standings as the third-best scorer.

Clarkson was also the Philippines’ team-high performer despite watching the rest of the match slip away from their reach while June Mar Fajardo and Dwight Ramos wound up as the other Gilas players to breach the double-digit mark with 16 and 13 points, respectively.
