A victory for the cultural and heritage sector.
That's how Pangasinan 4th district Rep. Christopher V.P. de Venecia described on Friday, Aug. 25 the enactment of the Cultural Mapping Law, as embodied in Republic Act (RA) No. 11969.
De Venecia, chairman of the Special Committee on the Creative Industries, said he was elated with the measure’s enactment.
"This landmark legislation is another victory for the cultural and heritage sector as well as the creative industries. It is also a significant milestone in protecting and celebrating our diverse cultural heritage," he said.
"The bill’s enactment into law underscores our nation’s commitment to safeguarding our traditions, history, and identity for the present and future generations," said De Venecia, who authored the measure.
"Cultural mapping," he underscored, "is not just about preserving our past, it is also about shaping our shared future."
The ranking solon said cultural mapping is not all about recording and monitoring the historical sites and artifacts, but also about "understanding the soul of the community".
De Venecia went on to thank the President as well as his lawmaker-colleagues who helped in the crafting of the bill.
"I wish to thank President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, my co-authors in the House of Representatives and the Senate, especially Senate President Pro Tempore Loren Legarda, the cultural agencies and advocates, and all those who worked tirelessly for this measure.
"Let us continue to work together in ensuring that the mosaic of cultures that adorn our country remains vibrant and cherished by all," he said.
