Vintage bomb found in construction site in Malate, Manila

A vintage mortar bomb was recovered from a construction site in Malate, Manila on Thursday afternoon, Aug. 24.

The Manila Police District Explosive and Canine Unit said the unexploded 81-millimeter illum mortar bomb was discovered by a construction worker while digging at the construction site of a 12-storey commercial building on Remedios Street in Ermita. .

Police said the heavily corroded bomb contains hazardous materials that may cause an explosion if not handled properly.

They also advised the personnel at the construction site to immediately report any suspicious materials that they will discover.

The bomb was brought to the explosive ordnance disposal specialist of the Manila Police District for proper disposal, police said.
