Makati LGU: Free laptops to remain with 'Embo' school teachers
The Makati City local government on Thursday, Aug. 24, denied allegations that it is taking back the laptops it provided to teachers working in 14 "Embo" public schools that are affected in the territorial rift between the city and Taguig.
"Patuloy na magagamit ng mga guro ang mga laptop na bigay ng Makati. Hindi totoo na babawiin ito. Babala : Huwag maniwala sa FAKE NEWS! (Teachers will continue to use the laptops Makati has provided them. It's not true that these will be taken back. WARNING: Don't believe in FAKE NEWS!)," the city government said on its official Facebook page.
The Makati LGU was reacting to a report from a news agency citing the claim of a teacher working at Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino High School, one of the 14 "Embo" public schools, that the city government is now slowly getting back the laptops it had given them to be used in their teaching. He added that they will possibly return to the traditional mode of teaching while still waiting for the gadgets to be provided by Taguig City.
On Aug. 23, Makati City Mayor Abby Binay spearheaded the distribution of free school supplies to the students of the 14 public "Embo" schools after receiving approval from the Department of Education (DepEd).
Binay said Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte has approved her request to proceed with the distribution of free school supplies to over 45,000 students of the public schools located in the 10 barangays affected by the Supreme Court (SC) decision.
