Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian on Thursday, Aug. 24 directed the regional directors of its field offices in Cagayan Valley and Bicol region to prepare for tropical depression Goring.
“Please ensure preparedness on your respective areas of responsibility in lieu of tropical depression Goring,” Gatchalian told the concerned regional offices through the DSWD’s Disaster Response and Management Group (DRMG).
DRMG Assistant Secretary Marlon Alagao specifically advised DSWD-Bicol Regional Director Norman Laurio and DSWD-Cagayan Valley Regional Director Lucia Alan to check on their respective stockpiles of food packs to ensure an adequate supply for families and individuals that may be affected by the tropical depression.
“Make sure also to identify the nearby locations for possible inter-operability in the delivery of food packs should the need arise,” Alagao told the concerned regional directors.
Laurio assured that the DSWD-Bicol Region has an ample stockpile of food packs and is prepared to respond.
Meanwhile, Alan said the DSWD-Cagayan Valley had already prepared relief supplies in Batanes province and the island municipality of Calayan in Aparri, Cagayan.
