108 Filipinos repatriated from Kuwait

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has repatriated a total of 108 Filipinos from Kuwait in August alone, with most of them undocumented workers in the Gulf nation.

According to the DFA, the distressed Filipinos flew to Manila onboard Saudi Airlines and Gulf Air flights, which arrived on August 15 and 16 at NAIA.

Since January 2023, a total of 5,940 individuals have been sent back home by the DFA, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Overseas Workers’ Welfare Administration (OWWA).

Of the figure, 763 were repatriated by the DFA alone.

The cost of their tickets was shouldered by the DFA Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs’ Assistance-to-Nationals Fund.

“Majority of the repatriated Filipinos were undocumented workers staying at the (Philippine) Embassy (in Kuwait) shelter,” DFA said.

“The repatriation was spearheaded by Philippine Ambassador Jose A. Cabrera III and supervised by Vice Consul Josel N. Mostajo, head of the Embassy’s ATN Section, in close coordination with the Migrant Workers Office in Kuwait,” it added.
