Senior citizen dies after bus hits her in Silay City

BACOLOD CITY – A senior citizen was killed after she was hit by a Ceres Liner bus in Barangay 3, Silay City, Negros Occidental on Tuesday, August 22.

The victim was identified by her eldest sister as Maria Consuelo Catalan, 62, of Barangay Rizal.

Police Lt. Col. Mark Anthony Darroca, Silay police chief, said that based on surveillance footage, the victim did not notice the approaching bus as she failed to look on both sides of Rizal St. while crossing a pedestrian lane.

Darroca said the victim was taken to a hospital where she passed away due to head injuries.

Jade Seballos, media and legal officer of Vallacar Transit Inc. (VTI), said that they will conduct their own investigation regarding the incident. She assured the family that the bus firm will provide assistance to them.
