The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Wednesday, Aug. 23 said the trough of the low-pressure area (LPA) and the southwest monsoon will bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to most of the country in the next 24 hours.
The LPA was last located 570 kilometers east of Aparri, Cagayan at 3 a.m.
Weather specialist Obet Badrina said PAGASA is not ruling out the possibility that the LPA may develop into a tropical depression in the next few days.
In the next 24 hours, the trough or extension of the LPA will bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to the Cagayan Valley and Cordillera Administrative Region.
Likewise, Zambales, Bataan, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Albay, Catanduanes, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Masbate, Sorsogon, Visayas, and Mindanao will have scattered rain showers and thunderstorms because of the southwest monsoon, or “habagat.”
PAGASA warned that flooding and landslides are possible during moderate to heavy rains.
Meanwhile, in the rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila, hot and humid weather will persist due to partly cloudy to cloudy skies, but isolated and short-lived rain showers or thunderstorms are still possible in the afternoon or evening.
PAGASA also advised the public to be cautious of possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.
