QC's Mayor Joy: Keep the spirit of Cry of Pugad Lawin alive

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte led the celebration of the 127th anniversary of “Sigaw ng Pugad Lawin (Cry of Pugad Lawin)” on Wednesday, Aug. 23, at the Dambana ng Pugad Lawin in Barangay Bahay Toro, Quezon City with a call to all Filipinos to keep the spirit of nationalism and love for country alive.


The mayor, with Vice Mayor Gian Sotto, District 1 Rep. Arjo Atayde, and the guest of honor, University of the Philippines (UP) professor, Ma. Luisa T. Camagay laid wreaths at the shrine.
Belmonte said the Cry of Pugad Lawin has a huge impact on the country's freedom.
“Ang gawain na ito ay naging hudyat para sa mga mananakop, na tayong mga Pilipino ay hindi dapat apihin sa sarili nating Bayan; ayaw nating mawalan ng karapatan sa sarili nating lupa, at tinatapos na natin ang pananakop ng mga banyaga (It was a signal to the oppressors that we Filipinos should not be subjugated in our own homeland. We do not want to lose our rights to our own land, and we are putting an end to the foreign occupations,” Belmonte said.
She urged Filipinos to keep the spirit of the Cry of Pugad Lawin alive and for the heroes to serve as an example in the ongoing aspiration to uphold a nation that is free and recognizes the equal rights of everyone
