Mayor Honey celebrates graduation of 50 female PDLs

The Manila local government said over 50 female persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) graduated from elementary through the alternative learning system.
The commencement exercises was held at Manila City Jail, Sta. Cruz, Manila on Wednesday, Aug. 23.
In her inspirational message, Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan congratulated the 54 PDL graduates aged 19 to 56.
"Hindi man tayo palaging malakas, ang importante, lagi tayong matatag (Even if we are not always strong, the important thing is we are always determined)," the mayor said.
"Gusto ko kayo batiin. Talagang natutuwa ako. Bagamat nandito kayo sa loob ng city jail, may pangarap pa rin kayo at alam ko kapag nabigyan kayo ng pagkakataon, ang pangarap na ito ay maipapamahagi niyo sa pamilya niyo (I want to congratulate you. I'm really glad. Although you are here in the city jail, you still have dreams and I know that if you are given a chance, you will be able to share this dream with your family)," she said.
The graduation ceremony was also attended by JSupt. Maria Lourdes P. Pacion, warden of the Manila City Jail Female Dormitory; Lea V. Faa, Division ALS focal person; Dr. Angelita P. Cornejo, officer-in-charge, Assistant School Division Superintendent; and JSupt. Clint Russel A. Tangeres, regional director of the Jail Bureau, NCR.
