DOLE turns over P613,000 livelihood grant to Surigao bangus producers
BUTUAN CITY – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) recently turned over a P613,256 livelihood grant to the Gagmay na Mamingwitay sa Tagana-an Fisherfolk Association in Tagana-an, Surigao del Norte.
The release of this livelihood grant will surely boost the bangus or milkfish production of Tagana-an and neighboring areas in the province, DOLE-13 Director Joffrey M. Suyao said.
“This assistance will also add economic growth and increase in the productivity of the local fishermen there,” Suyao said.
The turnover was graced by Tagana-an municipal officials led by Mayor Cesar B. Diaz, DOLE-Surigao del Norte Field Office head May C. Velonta, and officials and members of the association.
Diaz thanked DOLE and affirmed the municipality’s commitment in fostering the livelihood opportunities granted to the community.
The local chief executive shared to the association a comprehensive understanding on the process needed prior to the distribution of the livelihood assistance.
“It entails a rigorous procurement process prior to the granting of this assistance,” Diaz said, adding, “As this is a rare opportunity, may we take good care of this livelihood and ensure its continuous operation.”
The president of the fisherfolk association, Fernando P. Repana, said that they will benefit from the livelihood grant.
“We will strive to ensure that Tagana-an will be a known supplier of milkfish throughout Surigao del Norte,” Repana said.
