A pickup truck hit and ran over a 20-year-old woman who was waiting for a ride in Sta. Cruz, Manila on Tuesday morning, Aug. 22.
The Manila Police District-Manila District Traffic Enforcement Unit (MPD-MDTEU) identified the victim as Deceline Sorilla, resident of Tambunting Street in Sta. Cruz.
According to the police report, the incident occurred in front of the BDO branch on Rizal Avenue in Sta. Cruz at around 10:15 a.m.
The pickup driver, Rodrigo Fuente, was about to park on an elevated part of the road when his car's engine suddenly stopped.
Authorities said the driver was not able to apply the brakes.
The car slid down the road and ran over the victim who was standing on the roadside waiting for a ride.
The Bureau of Fire Protection-Emergency Medical Services (BFP-EMS) immediately went to the area after receiving a call about the incident at 10:26 a.m.
It said that the victim sustained pain in her right pelvic. She was brought to Jose Reyes Hospital after receiving first aid.
The driver is now under the MPD-MDTEU and will face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in physical injury.
