Phone GPS leads to rescue of Taiwanese kidnap victim in Malabon, 2 foreign captors arrested
Police have rescued a Taiwanese woman from the clutches of her foreign abductors during an anti-kidnapping operations in Malabon City, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) disclosed said.
NCRPO director Brig. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez said the operation stemmed from a call for assistance from the victim’s friend about the kidnapping that occurred on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 20.
The caller told the police about the victim’s possible location based on the Global Positioning System (GPS) on the phone of the 35-year old victim which pointed to a house at Victoneta North, in Barangay Potrero, Malabon.
Nartatez said his men immediately proceeded to the area to check on the report and resulted in the rescue of the victim.
He said it also resulted in the arrest of 34-year old Zheng Xi Lin and 36-year old Ma Pun Xin, both Chinese and occupants of the house where the operation was conducted.
During the investigation, the victim said she was invited by a friend for a meet up in Malate, Manila on Aug. 14 but the person she was supposed to meet did not show up.
She was then taken by several Chinese men and were taken to a house where she was also sexually abused by the leader of the group.
The suspects also forced her to give them money amounting to almost US$ 125,000.
Nartatez said follow-up operations are now being conducted against the other suspects while appropriate charges are now being prepared against those who were arrested.
