Marcos made the order in a sectoral meeting in Malacañang on Tuesday, Aug. 22.

Noting that there are 125 stand-alone islands served by small power utilities groups in the country, the President ordered the exploration of renewable energy sources, not just limited to solar energy but other green technologies as well.

According to Palace press briefer Daphne Paez, Marcos ordered for "all new renewable energy sources to be more holistic and outlook, to look beyond supplying power to households and to support the growth of industries in the countryside."

The Chief Executive also discussed concerns on missionary electrification during the meeting,  where he ordered the continuation of the expansion of the Philippines' national grid by approving the interisland connection of Palawan and Mindoro Islands.

"This is all in keeping with President's goal of 100 percent electrification which he mentioned in his recent SONA (State of the Nation Address),"Paez said.

Marcos is looking at 100 percent electrification of the country by the end of his term in 2028.

In his SONA, he raised the possibility of having complete electrification of the country as it has now a Unified National Grid, saying “The ‘One Grid, One Market’ will enable more efficient transfers and more competitive pricing of electricity throughout the country.”
