Female UP Manila undergrad student tops 2023 PNPA admission test
A 20-year old female Applied Physics student of the University of the Philippines- Manila campus topped the 2023 Philippine National Police Academy Cadet Admission Test (PNPACAT), a police official disclosed on Tuesday, Aug. 22.
PNPA Acting Director Samuel Nacion did not reveal the name of the topnotcher but said she is from Cervantes, Ilocos Sur and took the examination at the Ilocos Sur National High School in Vigan City.
The UP student was among the 1,031 students who passed the PNPACAT that was conducted on Aug. 6 in various testing centers across the country.
The passers were among the 107,345 aspirants who submitted the online application. Only 37,020 applicants passed the first screening and during the examination day, a total of 25,418 applicants showed up to take the admission test.
“The passing rate for this year's PNPACAT is 4.06 percent which is slightly lower than last year but well within the five year average) but showcased the rigorous and competitive nature of the examination,” said Nacion.
The four other applicants who landed in the top five spots are an 18-year old male Grade 12 student from the Valenzuela City School of Mathematics and Science who ranked number two; a 20-year-old female examinee from San Luis, Aurora who landed in the third spot; an 18-year-old male applicant from Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, currently Grade 12 student at Tuguegarao City Science High School who took the number four spot; and, a 20-year-old male from Malolos City, an undergraduate student in Computer Engineering at Bulacan State University.

Of the successful examinees for the 2023 PNPACAT, 73.33 percent are male while 26.67 percent are female.
The educational qualifications of the passers are as follows: 2.04 percent are college graduates, 58.97 percent are college undergraduates, 29.87 percent are Senior High School (SHS) graduates, and 9.12 percent are currently in Grade 12.
The average age of the passers is 19, with the majority falling into the age brackets of 19 and 20.
The youngest successful examinee is 17 years old while the oldest is 22.
The test centers that produced the most passers are:
1. Baguio City (015 Baguio City National High School) with 94 passers
2. Dasmariñas City (009 Dasmariñas City National High School) with 66 passers
3. Quezon City (018 Batasan Hills National High School ) with 64 passers
4. Tuguegarao City (003 Cagayan National High School) with 63 passers
5. Davao City (025 University of Mindanao-Matina Campus) with 57 passers
Screening continues
The passers, however, are yet to undergo a series of physical, medical and mental tests before they are admitted to the PNPA.
“Applicants who have passed the PNPACAT are encouraged to prepare physically and mentally for the next stages and visit the PNPA's official page regularly for further instructions and announcements,” the PNPA statement read.
PNPA cadets are full scholars with allowances. Graduates are assured of employment at the Philippine National Police, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology and the Bureau of Fire Protection.
