'Oppenheimer,' 'Concrete Utopia' top weekend box office in South Korea

“Oppenheimer,” directed by Christopher Nolan, and the Korean movie “Concrete Utopia” grabbed the first two spots in the weekend box office in South Korea. 

Based on data from the Korean Film Council (KOFIC), “Oppenheimer” is the No. 1 most watched film from the weekend period Aug. 18 to 20, garnering 773,092 in admissions and earning $6.22 million.

Since its opening on Aug. 15, “Oppenheimer” has sold 1.59 million tickets and grossed $12.63 million in six days. 

“Concrete Utopia,” South Korea’s entry to the Oscars starring Lee Byung-hun, Park Seo-joon and Park Bo-young, placed second in the weekend box office with 480,645 in admissions and gross of $3.6 million. 

Since its release on Aug. 9, the Korean movie has been watched by 2.79 million people and grossed $20.39 million. 

Meanwhile, Tom Cruise’ “Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One” has reached 4 million viewers in South Korea. 

From July 12 to Aug. 20, the film has been watched by four million people and grossed $29.99 million in South Korea. 

The global hit “Barbie” has lagged behind in South Korea. In one month since it opened on July 19, “Barbie” only managed to garner 570,253 in total admissions and $4.17 million in gross.
