PCG rescues Ukrainian ship crew off Northern Samar

A Ukrainian male crew member of a cargo ship sailing off Palapag, Northern Samar was rescued by the Philippine Coast Guard after feeling unwell, the PCG said on Saturday, August 19.

The PCG identified the rescued individual as Drozhzhyn Sergiy, 71, crew member of M/V UHL Falcon.

Sergiy was weakened and felt chest pains and dizziness which prompted his colleagues to seek for assistance while they were sailing last August 17.

The Coast Guard District Eastern Visayas deployed personnel from Coast Guard Station Northern Samar, Sub-Station Allen, and Special Operations Group (SOG) Eastern Visayas along with Coast Guard K9 Northern Samar and Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) to conduct a medical evacuation (medevac).

The responders transported the patient to Catarman Doctors Hospital.

“Mr. Sergiy had received immediate medical attention and was declared to be in good condition by the attending physician,” the PCG said.
