The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) advised motorists regularly using EDSA to take alternate routes from Aug. 4 to 9 to avoid expected heavy traffic volume amid the almost week-long repair of potholes and damaged portions along the stretch of Metro Manila’s busiest road.
MMDA chairperson Don Artes said the EDSA repair covers asphalt overlay and reblocking from Buendia to Muñoz, both bounds, starting 10 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 4, until 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 9.
“This will be a one-time, big-time EDSA repair in 15 sites along the stretch of EDSA for four to five days by the DPWH (Department of Public Works and Highways). Motorists should expect partial road closures within that period,” said Artes in a press briefing on Wednesday, Aug. 2.
In the past weeks, Artes said the DPWH has been conducting road repairs that are are scheduled usually from Friday night to early morning of Monday.
But he explained that such time frame is not sufficient to repair damaged portions of EDSA and this is the reason, according to him, why the decided to have the repair done simultaneously in 15 areas.
Repair sites
The areas where the road repair will be conducted are:
1. Fronting Hurom / Philam Homes
2. Before Benitez St. (after Trinoma)
3. HQ BBM (near Octoboy)
4. DDT Skytower (Centris Station) - Albano
5. Before Guadalupe Bridge (whole length)
6. Rockwell Footbridge - Kalayaan (whole length)
7. Footbridge before Trinoma – front Landmark
8. Quezon City 2nd DEO Office – Centris
9. Corinthians – after AFP
10. Before MMDA (Sunshine Media Marketing)
11. Guadalupe MRT – Guadalupe Bridge
12. Footbridge Trinoma – SM North
13. Front SM North and Nice Hotel – Muñoz footbridge
14. Fronting Ricoa – Avida Towers
15. Before Floor Central and Wilcon
Alternate routes
An average of 426,000 vehicles everyday are taking the EDSA route and the DPWH road repair is expected to cause monstrous traffic jams.
The MMDA, however, plotted alternate routes for motorists.
