Mayor Along assures disposal of P30-M expired meat products seized in Caloocan
Caloocan City Mayor Dale Gonzalo "Along" Malapitan has assured the public that the P30 million worth of allegedly expired meat products confiscated by national and local government agencies in Caloocan on Tuesday, Aug. 1, will be disposed properly so they will not reach the markets.
The mayor, together with members of the City Veterinary Department (CVD), Bureau of Customs (BOC), Department of Agriculture (DA), and the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) on Tuesday, inspected a warehouse on Tuna Street, Kaunlaran Village, Barangay 28, where they found five container vans with expired meat products which allegedly came from China and Germany.

The local government said the warehouse does not have a permit to operate in the city.
Malapitan instructed the City Assessor's Office to identify the owner of the lot where the warehouse was built to locate the person/s who rented or own the container vans.
The mayor directed the CVD to properly dispose of the meat products.
“Sa ganitong mga ilegal at posibleng kontaminadong karne, naapektuhan hindi lang ang kalusugan ng mga mamamayan kundi nagiging kakompetensya pa ito ng mga maliliit na negosyo sa ating mga palengke (With this illegal and possibly contaminated meat, not only the health of the citizens is affected but it also competes with our small businesses),” he said.
“Inaalam na po natin kung sino ang may-ari ng mga produktong at warehouse na ito. Sisikapin natin na hindi na aabot sa ating mga pamilihan ang ganitong klase ng karne para sa ikabubuti ng lahat ng Batang Kankaloo (We are now finding out who is the owner of these products and warehouse. We will try to prevent this kind of meat from reaching our markets for the safety of our citizens),” Mayor Along added.
The mayor also thanked the national and local government agencies involved in the operation that led to the seizure of the expired meat products.
The city government said the BOC will be filing cases against the illegal importers once they are identified.
