The Manila local government hailed on Wednesday, August 2, the Universidad De Manila (UDM) for producing almost 200 graduates with Latin honors during its commencement exercises. According to the record of the state university, a total of 194 students graduated cum laude and six others magna cum laude. Manila Vice Mayor John Marvin "Yul Servo" Nieto took pride in delivering his inspirational message to 2,917 UDM graduates during their graduation ceremony at Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) last July 31. He said the city government recognized their perseverance to get their diplomas. "Ang araw na ito ay simbolo ng tagumpay para sa lahat ng iyong mga naging sakripisyo (This day is a symbol of victory for all your sacrifices)," Nieto said in his inspirational message. "Tagumpay, pighati, at samut-saring ala-alang siguradong kaming babaunin niyo habang buhay (Success, sorrow, and so many memories are sure to be remembered for life)," he added. Nieto also congratulated the parents of the graduates for the sacrifices they did for their children. He also honored the working students who managed to finish their studies. "Wag kayong titigil dahil ang buhay laging may obstacle na pinagdadaanan. Lahat 'yan kaya natin lalo na mga Batang Maynila kayo, Batang Pilipino (Don't stop because life always has obstacles to overcome. We can do all that, especially us, Batang Maynila, Batang Pilipino)," the vice mayor said. UDM president Dr. Ma. Felma Carlos-Tria also acknowledged the efforts of the students in overcoming the trials they faced. "To this whole batch, congratulations kasi napagtagumpayan niyo ang hirap ng pag-aaral (To this whole batch, congratulations because you have overcome the hardships of studying) despite all the circumstances that we dealt with including the pandemic," Carlos-Tria said. "Yan po ang dahilan kung bakit (That is the reason why) I can say that indeed as the theme for our 28th founding anniversary says 'We are destined to be great', not just the school but you my dear graduates," she added.
