LTO vows to fast-track distribution of unclaimed license plates

(Calvin D. Cordova) Vigor Mendoza II made this assurance when he visited the storage facility of the LTO-Central Central Visayas on Tuesday, August 1. The 3.5-hectare facility in Talisay City, Cebu has 71,564 unclaimed motor vehicle plates and 528,772 motorcycle plates. "We're putting a timeline on this to see where we can go. We're talking to some motor vehicle dealers to help because they’re the ones who sold the vehicles so they know whom to give the plates to. We will coordinate with them so that they can help us in distributing these plates,” said Mendoza. Mendoza said vehicle owners should be informed that their plates are ready for pickup. To do this, Mendoza said there is a need to fast-track the process of uploading the data of the unclaimed motor vehicle and motorcycle plates. "First things first, we need to upload the data so that they will know that their plates are already available and they will know where to pick them up,” said Mendoza. Mendoza was accompanied by LTO-7 chief Glen Galario during the visit. Galario said LTO-7 has released more than 20,000 plates through the dealers after he received a marching order from Department of Transportation (DOTR) Secretary Jaime Bautista to fast-track the release of these unclaimed plates. Galario was named LTO-7 chief last June, replacing Victor Caindec.
