"Family Matters" leads the upcoming Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) awards with 12 nominations.
The stars of the film, Mylene Dizon and Nikki Valdez, are both vying for the Best Supporting Actress plum while co-star Nonie Buencamino is nominated Best Supporting Actor.
Film leads Liza Lorena and Noel Trinidad, on the other hand, are competing in the Best Actress and Best Actor categories, respectively.
"Family Matters," directed by Nuel Naval and produced under Cineko Productions and Top Story, was released theatrically as an official entry to the 2022 Metro Manila Film Festival.
It's a touching dramedy that revolves around a family caught in emotional turmoil as they contend with one another over the responsibility of caring for their father who has suffered a stroke.
Next to remove the most number of nominations are "Leonor Will Never Die" and "Blue Room" with 10 each, while "Deleter" has eight.
The 71st edition will be held on Aug. 13 at the Manila Hotel.
In a statement, the organization reiterated, "The Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences or FAMAS is still the highest Filipino film award a filmmaker or artisan could receive in the local movie industry."
"Unlike other award-giving bodies today that emerged later, FAMAS is a witness to the country's history. FAMAS was established in 1952 after 2 years of the Maria Clara Award."
Some industry pillars who earned FAMAS trophies include Rogelio dela Rosa, Leopoldo Salcedo, Jose Padilla, Jr., Pancho Magalona, Van de Leon, Fernando Poe, Jr., Joseph Estrada, Eddie Garcia, Carmen Rosales, Paraluman, Tessie Quintana, Gloria Romero, Nida Blanca, Charito Solis, Marlene Dauden, Susan Roces, Amalia Fuentes, Nora Aunor, Vilma Santos, and many others.
