THE roll-out for the Covid-19 bivalent vaccines for the general population in Western Visayas region. (DOH-6) “Vaccination is deemed crucial as these viruses change over time, which is why we need to be updated with our booster doses,” said DOH-6 Director Dr. Adriano Suba-an. The DOH-6 formally launched the Covid-19 bivalent vaccines this week to the general population in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental provinces as well the highly urbanized cities of Iloilo and Bacolod. The expansion covers those outside of health workers, who were the first priority to get jabs of the Pfizer bivalent vaccines that arrived in the country last June. Suba-an said that senior citizens and those with diagnosed health problems are the second priority group for the bivalent vaccines. “The bivalent vaccines include two components. The first corresponds to the original virus strain and the second component is to Omicron and its sub-variants,” explained Suba-an. “It provides better protection against the most severe forms of Covid-19 virus,” added Suba-an.
