LRT-1 operation briefly stalls after passenger jumps onto track at Blumentritt station
The operation of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 1 was temporarily halted on Saturday morning, Aug. 19, after a 26-year old man jumped onto the southbound track of the Blumentritt Station while a train was approaching.
Fortunately, the operator was able to immediately apply the emergency brake, according to Jorjette Aquino, assistant secretary for Railways of the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
“First responders rescued the passenger from under the train. He was found conscious, with head abrasions and severed left foot,” said Aquino.
She said an investigation is still being conducted to determine what prompted the man to jump.
But Aquino said the passenger was rushed to a hospital and as of 9:32 am, she said the passenger is in stable condition.
Aquino said the full operations of the LRT-1 resumed at 6:44 a.m.
