BTS J-Hope's 'Jack In The Box' sells nearly 520,000 copies to debut at No. 1 on daily chart

BTS member J-Hope’s “Jack In The Box” Hope Edition debuted at No. 1 on the daily physical album chart in South Korea with more than 500,000 copies sold on the first day of release. 

The “Jack In The Box” Hope Edition physical album was released on Aug. 18 and features recordings of J-Hope’s 2022 Lollapalooza live performance and instrumental tracks.

The newly released album is the physical version of his first solo album “Jack In The Box,” which was originally released on July 15, 2022 that was meant to be a special gift for fans. 

According to Korea’s Hanteo Chart, the “Jack In The Box” Hope Edition album sold 519,476 copies on the first day of release on Aug. 18, or an equivalent of 675,319 physical record index score, which Hanteo now uses to rank albums by combining total sales and album price. 

The total sales for the Hope Edition are higher by 204,098 copies compared to the 315,378 copies that the “Jack In The Box” Weverse Album sold on the first day last year. 

“Jack In The Box” was previously released as a Weverse Album, allowing fans to download the tracks via the Weverse Albums application in addition to streaming platforms. 

As with the original album, J-Hope participated in the overall composition and arrangement of “Jack In The Box” Hope Edition, infusing his individuality and distinctive artistic color.

At 2022 Lollapalooza, J-Hope made history as the first Korean artist to headline a major US music festival. 

“Jack In The Box” Hope Edition features a total of 15 tracks including the ten original tracks from Jack In The Box (2022) with the addition of three live performance recordings of tracks showcased at Lollapalooza and two instrumental tracks. The album also comes with a variety of new concept photos and components for fans to enjoy. 

Much like the album’s title, which refers to a toy box where a figure pops out when one opens the box, the album shows J-Hope’s aspiration to show a new and mature side of himself. 

J-Hope is currently fulfilling his military service in South Korea. 

Here are the 10 top-selling albums in South Korea on Aug. 18 based on Hanteo Chart’s data. Albums are ranked by physical record index scores.
