Close to 1,000 people attended the burial of former Manila Vice Mayor Danilo "Danny" Bautista Lacuna at the Manila South Cemetery on Friday afternoon, Aug. 18.

A funeral ceremony was held in Manila City Hall at around 1 p.m., where local government personnel and employees paid their respects to the former vice mayor by throwing confetti at the quadrangle.

At 2 p.m., pallbearers from the Manila Police District brought the coffin to the Manila South Cemetery. Several policemen were deployed to maintain the security in the area.

The funeral Mass for Lacuna was presided by Father Joel Rescober of St. Vincent de Paul Parish.

In her speech, Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan expressed her gratitude to everyone who attended the last farewell ceremony for her father.

Manila Vice Mayor John Marvin "Yul" Servo-Nieto, former Manila Mayor Francis "Isko" Moreno, and the city district representatives were also present at the funeral rites.

"Malaki ang naitulong niya (Danilo Lacuna) kase kung walang Danny Lacuna, walang "Nieto". Siya ang unang nagbigay ng unang pagkakataon sa apelyidong Nieto na maging lingkod-bayan (He helped a lot because without Danny Lacuna, there would be no "Nieto". He was the first to give the opportunity to Nieto family to serve the public)," Nieto said.

He also promised the late former vice mayor that he would do better at his work and would try to follow in his footsteps as a good public servant.

Lacuna died at the age of 85 last Sunday, Aug. 13.
