The Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) has imposed a higher passenger and cargo fuel surcharge rate for domestic and international flights which may result to costlier airfares.

In an advisory dated Wednesday, August 16, CAB Officer-in-Charge Maria Elben Moro said the fuel surcharge, or the additional fee applied as a result of increase in fuel prices, has been increased to Level 6 from September 1 to 30, which is two notches higher from the current Level 4 being implemented.
Under Level 6, the CAB said that passengers shall pay a fuel surcharge of P185 to P665 for domestic flights and from P610.37 to P4,538.40 for international flights, depending on the distance of their trip.
The increase followed a three-month maintained fuel surcharge Level 4 since June where passengers only paid P117 to P342 for such fee for domestic flights and P385.70 to P2,867.82 for international flights.
“Airlines wishing to impose or collect fuel surcharge for the same period must file its application with this Office on or before the effectivity period, with fuel surcharge rates not exceeding the above-stated level,” Moro said.
“For fuel surcharge to be collected in equivalent currency, the applicable conversion rate for the same period is 1USD (US dollar) = 54.97 PHP (Philippine peso),” she added.
