TACLOBAN CITY – The municipality of Isabel in Leyte province has lined up activities for the Quiot Festival from August 25 to 27.
A celebration of culture, sports, and community, the festival aims to immerse its guests in cultural enrichment and bring together residents and visitors to celebrate the town's rich heritage and vibrant community.
A Quiot Street Dancing and Dance Showdown showcasing cultural performances that span traditional dance and music will be presented by different schools in the municipality on August 25.
Also to be held is Isabel’s first-ever Invitational Mayor Dodo Jetski and Motocross Competition for local sports enthusiasts on August 26 and 27.
The town was named after "quiot," a black stingless bee abundant in the area and famed for its honey.
It is the home of the Philippine Associated Smelting and Refining Corp. (PASAR) and Philippine Phosphate Fertilizer Corp. (PhilPhos) and the Philippines' first industrial town used to be a barrio named Quiot from neighboring town Merida.
The local government unit added that the festival is a platform to show unity and promote local talent and tourism.
