The Parañaque city government conducted the awarding ceremony for the sixth "Barangay Powers: Search for the Oustanding Barangay" on Wednesday, Aug. 16, at the Parañaque Sports Complex.

According to Mayor Eric Olivarez, the program themed “Komunidad: Pagbuklurin, Pagandahin, Palakasin” started in 2013 to highlight the programs of each barangay in the city in promoting peace and order and maintaining the beautification and cleanliness of their areas.
Olivarez thanked the 13 out of the 16 barangays in the city who joined the competition.
He said Barangay San Isidro was named as the "Most Outstanding Barangay" in District 1 with a cash prize of P300,000; Barangay Vitale ranked first place with a cash prize of P200,000; and second placer was Barangay Tambo with a cash prize of P150,000.
The mayor said for District 2, the top prize went to Barangay Merville with P300,000 cash, followed by Barangay Don Bosco for the first place with P200,000 cash, and Barangay Marcelo Green for the second place also with a cash prize of P150,000.
Olivarez said other barangays in the city were awarded with special awards -- Barangay Merville for "Cleanest Barangay," "Healthy Barangay," "Barangay with Most Child and Youth Protection Program" and "Senior Citizen-and PWD-friendly Barangay."
Barangay San Isidro was awarded with the "Disaster-Resilient Barangay," "Food Always in the Home (FAITH) Garden-Compliant Barangay," and "Tourism-Oriented Barangay."
The mayor added that Barangay Don Bosco was awarded as "Most Active Barangay in Rabies and Animal Response;" Barangay San Martin De Porres as "Barangay with Most Effective Information, Education, and Communication Campaign Programs;" and Barangay Vitalez won the "Best Bid Book" award.
Olivarez said other participating barangays were given consolation prizes and trophies.
