NPA arms cache unearthed in Surigao del Sur


BUTUAN CITY – A New People’s Army arms cache was discovered in Sitio Hilamon, Barangay Burgos, Cortes, Surigao del Sur on Tuesday, August 15.

The Police Regional Office-13 said the police and military dug up these war materials following a tip from a concerned citizen.

“A tip from a concerned villager made our ground troops swoop down in reported area,” PRO-13 Regional Public Information Office (RPIO) chief Police Major Jennifer S. Ometer said.

Unearthed were 10 magazines with ammunition, two AK-47 rifles with three magazines loaded with ammunition, and bomb-making materials, including three IEDs.

Intelligence report said these items were owned by Weakened Guerilla Front 30 of the Communist Party of the Philippines-NPA Northeastern Mindanao Regional Committee.

These gund and bullets were taken to the Surigao del Sur (SDS)-Provincial Forensic Unit for ballistic examination while the IED materials were turned over to SDS Provincial Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Canine Unit for proper disposition.

PRO-13 Director Police Brig. Gen. Kirby John B. Kraft commended residents for helping the police and military find these weapons.

“I would like to commend our informant, PNP personnel, soldiers, and counterparts for the recovery of these weapons which could be used by the CTG in sowing fear and terror in the community,” Kraft said. “This discovery highlights the importance of cooperation against those who wish to harm our way of life.”
