The official was seen repainting a table at the Vicente Duterte High School on Tuesday, Aug. 15.
In a Facebook post, she said the Office of the Vice President’s (OVP) participation in the event was made possible through its Davao Satellite Office.
“Sa panayam ko sa media, binigyang-diin ko ang layunin natin na magkaroon ng mga paaralan na clean, orderly, at functional (In my interview with the media, I emphasized that our goal is for our schools to be clean, orderly, and functional),” she wrote.
The OVP’s participation in the Brigada Eskwela 2023 is meant to show support for the Department of Education (DepEd), which she heads in a concurrent capacity, in its preparation for the opening of school year 2023-24.
“Nananawagan rin ako sa Bayanihan spirit ng mga Pilipino para tumulong sa paghahanda ng ating mga paaralan sa nalalapit na pasukan (I also call on for the communal spirit of Filipinos to help in preparing our schools for the upcoming opening of classes),” Duterte added.
On Wednesday, Aug. 16, the Vice President visited Tapak Elementary School, Gumitan Elementary School, and Dominga Elementary School, where she joined teachers, parents, and volunteers in cleaning, repainting, and cutting grass within the school premises.

These schools are located in villages, formerly controlled by communists New People's Army, and are inhabited mainly by lumads.
Brigada Eskwela “is a nationwide school maintenance program that engages all education stakeholders to contribute their time, effort, and resources in ensuring that public schools are all set in time for class opening.”
