Artefino Festival 2023 champions Filipino craftsmanship and sustainability through its HeArtefino Foundation

Since its inception in 2017, Artefino has been dedicated to putting the spotlight on local fashions and crafts. Through the years, and even during the pandemic, its mission of uplifting local craftsmen continued and it became the launch pad for many  Filipino brands, designers, and social enterprises. Its 2023 edition is no different. And with its foundation, its goal is poised to be more stronger and long-term.

Through the HeArtefino Foundation, Artefino has inspired innovation and collaboration among members of the community to share in the mission of supporting artist-entrepreneurs and partner communities. This year, proceeds from the ArteFino Festival and its ticket sales are dedicated to The HeArteFino Foundation and its programs. They are used to fund and invest in chosen communities around the country. Beneficiaries of HeArteFino’s development program include beaders of the Bagobo Tagabawa community from Davao and fabric weavers of Kabankalan in Negros Occidental.

“When we partner with communities or makers. Our aim is to empower them to run sustainable businesses,” says Artefino co-founder Cedie Vargas. “Our collaborations run for several years so that we establish long-term relationships and create real impact.”

As mentioned, also at the heart of the foundation is sustainability. In the past, HeArtefino took a step toward a circular model in fashion, design, and lifestyle spaces through zero-waste manufacturing. For Artefino 2023, the foundation will have a booth showcasing deadstock fabrics fromAnthill and Great Women.

“We commissioned Carol de Leon of Angkan World to create a collection using fabrics from Anthill and Great Women.” Marimel Francisco, co-founder of ArteFino, says. “We saw all the inventory that needed to be unloaded so that they could continue working.”

“For the first time, we are immersing deeply in the entire supply chain,” Susie adds. “This year, we found ourselves working closely with both makers and the designer.”

Running from Aug. 24 to 27 at The Fifth at Rockwell and North Court, both in Powerplant Mall, Artefino 2023 is guided by the theme “Reuse, Repurpose, and Regenerate.” It amplifies the distinctly Filipino point of view in creating sustainable fashion. Participating brands also pay homage to the archipelago’s rich history of craft through contemporary designs that emphasize the global wearability of time-honored Filipino weaves and fabrics.

The festival is co-presented by Rockwell Land Corporation and will open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. (Friday), 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. (Saturday), and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. (Sunday). To know more about it, visit @artefinoph on Instagram.
