CAMP GENERAL VICENTE LIM, Laguna – A New People’s Army member and supporter surrendered to the police in this province recently.
One of them was an incumbent barangay official.
Police Regional Office 4-A Director Police Brig. Gen. Carlito Gaces said the surrenderer is a barangay kagawad or councilor in Pagsanjan, Laguna.
Gaces said the surrenderer gave financial support to the NPA after winning in 2018 until 2022. But he yielded and expressed cooperation and willingness to support the government campaign to end the local communist armed conflict.
The other surrenderer is a 60-year-old member of NPA in the barrios in Sitio Pulang Lupa, Paete, Laguna.
He was recruited in 1999 and was tasked as firearms keeper during an encounter between the NPA and the 1st Infantry Battalion of Task Force Banahaw in May 2000.
He surrendered his caliber .45 pistol with 11 bullets.
Police said these two surrenderers were listed in the Periodic Status Report (PSR).
