ILOILO CITY – As part of its measures to curb cases of African Swine Fever (ASF), the provincial government of Antique has confiscated over 500 kilos of pork and frozen pork meat.
As of August 4, the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian (ProVet) of Antique has confiscated 553.909 kilos of banned pork at border checkpoints.
Aside from fresh pork, the veterinary quarantine inspectors seized frozen pork products such as bacon, burger patties, embutido, chicharon, ham, tocino, chorizo, longganisa, and sausages.
The veterinary quarantine inspectors seized cooked dishes such as dinuguan, lechon paksiw, pork adobo, menudo, barbecue, and even items like milk fish or beef packed together with pork.
The Antique ProVet then disinfected, burned, and buried the confiscated pork items and pork by-products.
Antique was the last province in Western Visayas region to have hogs infected with ASF which finally reached Antique in June.
Antique ProVet has depopulated more than 6,000 infected hogs in the towns of Hamtic, San Jose de Buenavista, Belison, and Sibalom.
