DAVAO CITY – Presidential Assistant for Eastern Mindanao Leo Tereso Magno reported on Tuesday, August 15, that around 20 ship manufacturing firms have established operations in the Davao region, attracting the interest of international enterprises to invest in the area.
“Such progress is not a small thing. It is a big thing for us in Davao region because it opens several opportunities for us to be recognized in the country and internationally,” Magno said during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Maritime Industry Authority (Marina)-11 building in Tugbok District here.
Magno, who commended the Marina-Davao for its contributions to the government, said that the emergence of ship manufacturing and related establishments in the region provides employment prospects for residents in the Davao region and those in the neighboring areas.
"The new office of the Marina will bring good things for the office and pressure on its employees. But if it is a new building, with new facilities, there is added pressure for us to improve our service further," Magno said, adding that he does not doubt the ability and competency of the Marina.
The Marina-Davao showcased efforts to make Davao region known overseas. Its new office is among the first national government agencies to open its doors at the Regional Government Center in Barangay Bago Oshiro in Tugbok.
Marina-Davao attributed the swift relocation of their regional office to the regional center to the assistance provided by the Office of the Special Assistant to the President and the Office of the President through the Office of the Presidential Assistant for Eastern Mindanao (OPAMINE).
