The Filipinas have gotten a huge boost after their 2023 FIFA World Cup stint. This was highlighted by the historic first goal of the Philippines courtesy of Sarina Bolden against New Zealand back in July.

Looking ahead, there is no question that expectations from the Philippine Women’s National football team will be higher. Regardless, the girls are hardly bothered by the new challenges ahead for as long as their bond remains and gets stronger.
“Each of us individually, coming together as a whole and being able to co-exist and balance off each other, we definitely make each other stronger. No matter who is coming in or out, it still really feels like a family at the end of the day and I think that is really our strongest piece,” forward Chandler McDaniel mentioned during a press conference earlier this month.
Without a doubt, the Filipinas have set the tone and foundation moving forward. The goal is to advance to the next FIFA World Cup in 2027 and several players admit that their recent FIFA World Cup stint made them hungrier to return to the big stage.
“I think that one thing that sets our team apart from other teams is that we had the ability to be together for so long because a lot of us were not on club teams from the very start. Being able to be together for so much time really made our bond stronger and it makes us want to play for each other as well as the country,” midfielder Katrina Guillou quipped.
Next up for the Filipinas is the 2023 Asian Games. There will be heavy expectations on them to put up the same level of performance and the lady booters are ready for the challenge.
Most of the players on the 2023 PH Women’s football team are ready to spring back once the Philippine Football Federation calls them up.
But other than the availability of the players, there is a more pressing question of who will call the shots for the Filipinas. Alen Stajcic and his coaching staff will no longer be around, bidding adieu after the Philippines’ 2023 FIFA World Cup stint.
No names have been floated on who would succeed the cudgels of Stajcic who will now focus on coaching Perth Glory in the A-League Men, an Australian football league.
Officially, no names have been floated to fill in the big shoes that the 49-year-old coach has left. The next coach of the Filipinas will have his or her work cut out for her or him.
But as far as Sofia Harrison is concerned, being handled by a new coach and staff may not be much of a problem as long as they remember to stick to their core values and continue to watch out for each other as a family.
“For as long as we keep our core values the same, we remain together as a group and as a family, it doesn’t matter who our coaching staff. We will be able to accomplish the same goals we set off,” Harrison said.
