DND explores business opportunities with US-ASEAN bizmen

The Department of National Defense (DND) said Tuesday, August 15, that it has explored potential areas of business cooperation in the defense and security industries with the United States – Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Business Council (US-ABC).

DND Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. met with delegates from the US-ABC at Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City last August 11 “to discuss a wide range of projects aligned with the department’s strategic goals to enhance its capabilities.”
The delegation from the US-ABC, led by its President and CEO Ted Osius, was composed of representatives from multiple corporations who seek to foster collaboration between the US and ASEAN countries.
Teodoro and the US-ABC delegates discussed possible projects that focus on enhancing the defense and military capabilities including in areas such as cybersecurity, pension programs, healthcare coverage human papillomavirus (HPV) and pneumonia vaccines, time-sensitive shipment handling and delivery, advanced weather forecasting systems, technology and internet services, and sustainable energy sources.

“Secretary Teodoro was pleased with the proposed business initiatives of the US-ABC delegation, which will further promote collaborative efforts in strengthening the defense capabilities of the Philippines,” DND spokesperson Arsenio Andolong said.
Andolong noted that the collaboration between the DND and the US-ABC proved the “ironclad alliance between the Philippines and the US.”
