Boy, 11, killed in lightning strike

LUCENA CITY, Quezon -- An 11-year-old boy died in a lightning strike while swimming at Tayabas Bay, Barangay Dalahican, this city, on Monday afternoon, August 14.

Police identified the victim as John Alexander Ballon, a Grade 5 student, of Barangay Dalahican.

The victim’s mother told police her child was swimming at 3 p.m. when a thunderstorm occurred and lightning suddenly struck her son.

The victim was taken to the Saint Anne General Hospital where he was declared dead.

Police said the victim will be subjected to a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
