LRT-1 to operate half-day on Aug. 20

LRT-1 private operator Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) will temporarily suspend operations on Sunday, Aug. 20, from 4:30 am to 11:59 am to upgrade its signaling system.

The first train from both LRT-1 Baclaran and Roosevelt Stations will depart at 12:00 noon.

However, there will be no changes in the last train schedule which is 9:30 pm from LRT-1 Baclaran Station, and 9:45 pm from LRT-1 Roosevelt Station.

During the half-day closure, LRMC will install a new software baseline on its currently operating signaling system to be fully compatible with the LRT-1 Cavite Extension software baseline.

This should facilitate the needed testing and commissioning of the entire railway system. 

Once successfully upgraded, there will be a full cutover for the extended signaling system from the existing LRT-1 Roosevelt Station in Quezon City to Dr. Santos Station in Paranaque City or the end station in the LRT-1 Cavite Extension – Phase 1.

As of end July 2023, overall completion rate for Phase 1 was already at 90.1 percent.

LRMC adopts advanced communication and modern technology to control and monitor the operation of its trains. 

Already, it has migrated to the new Alstom signaling system in February 2022 to improve the total traffic control system of LRT-1 and facilitate the testing, commissioning, and operation for revenue service of its new Gen-4 trains.

“We would like to ask for the understanding of our commuters as we upgrade our LRT-1 system," LRMC Chief Operating Officer Rolando J. Paulino III stated.

"We aim to improve capacity and performance across the line, as well as enable more trains with better connections and greater reliability in anticipation of the much-awaited completion of Cavite Extension Phase 1,” he concluded.
