4 fishers rescued from boat hit by tornado

SARIAYA, Quezon – Four fishermen were rescued by members of the Bantay Dagat after a tornado overturned their fishing boat in Tayabas Bay in this town on Monday afternoon, August 14.

Edwin Frias, head of the Sariaya Bantay Dagat, said the fishing boat was hit by the tornado at around 3 p.m. approximately seven kilometers away from the shoreline of Barangay Talaan here.

Frias said the fishermen were on their way out to sea from Barangay Castañas when the tornado suddenly formed amid heavy rain.

The tornado overturned the fishing boat and the fishermen managed to climb onto the upturned boat and were able to call for help.

They were rescued by the Bantay Dagat conducting a sea patrol after about an hour.

No one was injured but their fishing gear was lost in the water.

The capsized boat was towed to the shoreline.
