1 hurt, 2 vehicles damaged after driver falls asleep in Quiapo road accident
A 25-year-old woman was injured after a driver of a sports utility vehicle (SUV) fell asleep while traveling along Quezon Boulevard in Quiapo, Manila, on Monday, Aug. 14.
The Manila Police District (MPD) identified the victim as Lailani Mandi, a resident of 418 Bautista, Quiapo.
Police said the suspect, Ronald Dimasuay, 49, was driving along the northbound lane of Quezon Boulevard at around 5:20 a.m. when the front right portion of his SUV suddenly sideswiped the left portion of a jitney at the corner of Bautista Street.
Witnesses said the suspect continued driving and hit a woman who was standing near a pedestrian lane.
The SUV continued its course until it hit the rear portion of a sedan taxi.
The victim sustained wounds and fractures and was brought to Mary Chiles Hospital by her relatives.
MPD said the suspect admitted that he suddenly fell asleep while driving.
The suspect faces charges of reckless imprudence resulting in injuries and multiple damage to property.
