Scattered rains to prevail over parts of PH due to 'habagat'
The southwest monsoon, or “habagat,” may bring rain showers and thunderstorms over parts of the country in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Monday, Aug. 14.
Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms may affect Palawan, Bicol Region, Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, and Caraga.
It warned of the possibility of flooding or landslides in these areas due to moderate to occasional heavy rains.
The rest of the country may continue to experience warm weather due to partly cloudy to cloudy skies with a chance of isolated rain showers or thunderstorms possible in the afternoon or evening.
PAGASA advised the public to be cautious of possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.
Weather specialist Obet Badrina said PAGASA has not monitored a low pressure area or tropical depression inside or near the country’s area of responsibility that may affect the country as of Monday.
He noted that there is a slim chance that a tropical cyclone will develop in the country in the next two to three days.
