Navotas welcomes 28 scholars, 206 tech-voc graduates
Some 206 Navotas City residents have completed technical-vocational (tech-voc) courses offered by the Navotas Vocational Training and Assessment (NAVOTAAS) Institute while 28 students and teachers became city academic scholars, the local government announced on Monday, Aug. 14.
Navotas City Mayor John Reynald “John Rey” Tiangco led the signing of the NavotaAs Academic Scholarship memorandum of agreement along with the 28 new academic scholars of the city for school year 2023-2024.
Among the scholars were 15 incoming high school freshmen, 11 incoming college freshmen, and two teachers pursuing higher education.
The city government said that the high school scholars will receive P18,000 per academic year for book, transportation and food allowance.

Scholars of the Navotas Polytechnic College will get P22,000 per academic year for tuition, book, transportation and food allowance; while those from other colleges or universities will receive P262,000 for the same, it added.
The teacher-scholars will get P75,000 every academic year for their tuition, book, transportation, food allowance and research grant.
“Deserving Navoteño learners should get access to quality education without worrying about their finances. The support they receive through this scholarship enables them to dream big and work towards achieving their aspirations in life,” Tiangco said.
Meanwhile, the 206 new skilled workers graduated from the NAVOTAAS Institutes after finishing their tech-voc courses on Friday, Aug. 11.
Among the graduates were 24 trainees who completed and received national certification (NC) II for Shielded Metal Arc Welding, 12 for Electrical Installation and Maintenance, seven for Dressmaking, 24 for Hairdressing, 15 for Massage Therapy, 40 trainees for Bread and Pastry Production NC II, 15 for Food and Beverages NC II, and 20 for Barista NC II.
Twenty-seven trainees also completed the Japanese Language and Culture course, while 22 trainees finished Korean Language and Culture.
“Seize every opportunity to learn. Continuous self-improvement and empowerment is the best investment you can make,” the mayor said.
The NAVOTAAS Institute is accredited by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), which offers various Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) courses under TESDA and Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to Navoteño and non-Navoteño trainees.
City residents may enroll for NAVOTAAS Institute courses for free.
Non-residents may enroll and take assessment exams for a fee, depending on their chosen course, according to the city government.
