Marcos donates P1 M to V. Mapa HS Brigada Eskwela 2023

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has donated P1 million to Victorino Mapa High School in San Miguel, Manila, in addition to the paint and cleaning materials he extended to the school for the Brigada Eskwela 2023.

Marcos made the donation after he joined teachers and volunteers for the annual school cleanup days ahead of the opening of the school year on Aug. 29.

In a short speech, Marcos said he saw how important Brigada Eskwela was to Filipinos as it showed that Filipinos will do anything for their children.
"Pagdating sa ating mga anak, sa mga bata, ay talagang buo ang loob natin na tumulong para gumanda naman ang kanilang experience dito sa pag-eskwela (When it comes to our kids, the children, we wholeheartedly help out so they could have a good experience in school),” he said.
During his visit to the school, Marcos inspected several classrooms and joined Duterte and the teachers and volunteers in doing some classroom cleaning and painting.
The President also talked with the school administration about their preferred start of the academic calendar. This is amid recommendations to revert the school opening to June.
Launched in 2003, Brigada Eskwela is an annual nationwide school maintenance program that engages education stakeholders to contribute their time, effort, and resources to prep schools for the opening of classes.
On Aug. 7, the Department of Education (DepEd) kicked off the 2023 Brigada Eskwela at the Tarlac National High School, which will run from Aug. 14 to 19.
This year’s Brigada Eskwela carries the theme, “Bayanihan para sa Matatag na Paaralan.”
During the six-day event, education stakeholders volunteer their time, skills, and resources to do the cleaning, carpentry, painting, minor repair and maintenance of classrooms, electrical works, masonry works, and pruning within the school premises.
The DepEd reported that it received about P44 million in donations from partners for this year's Brigada Eskwela.
