Gov't to focus on 'long-term outlook' for salary increase of teaching, non-teaching personnel
The current administration is considering the establishment of a policy aimed at addressing calls for salary increases, particularly among teachers and other non-teaching staff within the Department of Education (DepEd).

“We have increases in the Salary Standardization Law in tranches every year,” said Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte during the opening day of the 2023 Brigada Eskwela program held at Victorino Mapa High School in San Miguel, Manila on Aug. 14.

During the event attended by President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., Duterte explained the government had been exploring ways to respond to the demand for higher wages, particularly among teachers.
“Noong pagpasok namin last year, pag-upo ko, nag-utos si Pangulong Marcos na mag-procure ng study na hindi lang yearly increase but the long-term outlook kung paano ba dapat ang increases ng sweldo ng ating mga teaching and non-teaching personnel (When we entered [office] last year, upon taking my position [as DepEd Secretary], President Marcos instructed to conduct a study not only for yearly increases but also for the long-term outlook on how the salary increments for our teaching and non-teaching personnel should be,” Duterte said.
She added that the study would encompass not only salary increases but also a comparative analysis in relation to inflation and the projected economic indicators in the upcoming years.
“We are awaiting the results of that study,” Duterte said.
The pledge to increase the salary of teachers was one of the commitments made by Marcos during his presidential campaign.

Teachers' organizations such as the Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) Philippines and the Teachers' Dignity Coalition (TDC) have consistently urged the government to fulfill the demand for "decent" salary hikes for teachers and non-teaching personnel.
