Head coach Anton Altamirano remained filled with pride seeing how much the guest team has grown through the course of the PBA 3x3 Season 3 First Conference.
“Considering that we only had two weeks to prepare for everything, we’re still happy with how we fought,” he said.
Wilcon Depot 3x3 fought tooth and nail in the first six legs and went to the Grand Finals on Sunday at Ayala Malls Market Market in Taguig as the no. 6 seed. There, it outlasted Terrafirma 3x3, 21-13, before falling to Pioneer, 20-16, in Pool B to still make the cut for the quarterfinals.
Buoyed by the might of Keith Datu and Louie Vigil, Wilcon Depot 3x3 stayed in step with two-time leg champions Ginebra until the final minute before exiting with the 18-14 loss.
Altamirano, though, argued that there’s still a lot to be proud of considering the roller coaster journey they had this conference through injuries, highlighted by a pair of semifinals appearances and a third place finish in Leg 6.
“We’re just getting started,” he said, looking to build up from this path which also included standout performances from TH Tumalip and the steady presence of Yutien Andrada.
“We’re seeing now how cohesive we can be and the players are getting their rhythm back. So there’s no question that the future is still bright for this group and we can’t wait to prepare for the next conference where we’ll have more than enough time to prepare.”
